On your first visit, we strive to make you feel comfortable and at ease. Our goal is to get to know you and understand your dental needs. We prefer the personalized service of a relaxed, one-on-one interview with a highly trained, professional treatment coordinator. Your treatment coordinator will listen to your health concerns and assist you with your medical forms. Following the initial interview, you will be introduced to your dental assistant. The treatment coordinator will share your information with the dental assistant, so you don’t need to repeat yourself.
The dental assistant will take you on a tour of our beautiful facility where we will explain our office layout and show you some of our latest dental technology. The dental assistant and Dr. Jason R. Lewis will then conduct your comprehensive exam which will include:
- A series of digital photographs from different angles. This allows you to see first-hand any areas of concern as well as identify functional, cosmetic or aesthetic concerns. These photographs allow us to see things that are often missed during a traditional exam;
- Digital X-rays
- Digital Intra-Oral Camera – a small camera that allows Dr. Lewis and you to see pathology, such as open margins, fractures and caries, that may not be seen without this level of magnification;
- Record all existing and previous dental work;
- Oral cancer screening;
- Use of Diagnodent Laser – a laser which aids in the detection of caries;
- Examination of the TMJ joint to assess proper function;
- Determination of need for neuromuscular assessment;
- Determination of need for dental sleep appliance;
- Listening to your dental health goals and educating you on dental options.
We’ll then schedule your dental cleaning and exam as a future visit. This allows Dr. Lewis to carefully evaluate the information gathered during your comprehensive exam and create a personalized treatment plan. Your next visit will be a cleaning and periodontal (gum) examination with Monica, our dental hygienist. She will assess and discuss the health of the tissues surrounding your teeth.
Dr. Lewis and your treatment coordinator will then review the digital photos and X-rays with you from your previous appointment. We will discuss the optimal treatment for you and create a personalized plan that meets your unique needs. This includes cost of treatment and number and length of appointments.
Our ultimate goal is to help you understand the most effective treatment options available and work together to ensure you attain optimal oral health.
